About ACE-031

ACE-031 is among the peptides researched in the context of the growth hormone (GH) axis. Acts as a decoy receptor that binds and sequesters myostatin and related TGF-beta superfamily ligands, preventing them from binding native ActRIIB on muscle cells — blocking myostatin's growth-inhibitory signaling.

Research Application

Historically studied as a myostatin-pathway inhibitor for muscle-wasting conditions; today referenced mainly as a cautionary case study in off-target toxicity from cross-reactivity with related BMP ligands.

Important to know

Claims circulating online are often not backed by valid clinical data. Treat all information as a starting point for your own scientific research, not as usage guidance.

Not a small peptide but a fusion protein (ramatercept): the extracellular ligand-binding domain of activin receptor type IIB fused to a human IgG1 Fc domain — a soluble decoy receptor.
Developed by Acceleron Pharma; tested in a Phase 2 trial in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The trial was halted in 2011 after safety signals (epistaxis, telangiectasia). Acceleron and Shire discontinued the program in 2013; never approved for any indication.

Research Overview

Numerous preclinical and some clinical studies exist on the GH axis, with evidentiary strength varying by substance.
